The book "The Secret Garden" by France Hodgson Burnett is a wonderful classic of fiction. The book contains 279 pages of one of Burnett's artwork. You will be amazed at the change that occurs throughout the book. The story, “The Secret Garden, begins in the home of the main character, Mary Lennox in India. He lives there with his mother and father. Her father is an army captain who she almost never sees and her mother is a beautiful woman who wants nothing to do with her daughter. Mary is cared for by her Ayah and the other servants who are in her house. It is also hidden from many people because they consider it ugly and not worth watching. One day a disease called cholera spreads through her house and everyone except her dies. A group of soldiers searched the house to make sure no one was there and found Maria. Mary was then sent to England and lived with a family for a short period of time until she was taken to live with her uncle Archibald Craven at his home, Misselthwaite Manor in Yorkshire. His uncle is considered a miserable, unhappy hunchback since his wife died. When he gets there, he finds out from a servant about a secret garden. The Secret Garden was locked away by his uncle after his wife's death because it was his garden. The key was hidden somewhere in the ground outside. She was interested in it and wanted to find it. Mary also becomes happier and no longer seems so ugly to people. He becomes kinder and a lot of it has to do with an old man who is a gardener called Ben Weatherstaff. He becomes one of his first friends he ever had. One day he heard screams coming from one of the many rooms of the house. One of the servants who watched over Maria......middle of paper......when he goes to live with his uncle he meets people and makes friends. She becomes a prettier and more elegant girl and cares about other people and things. He does more instead of sitting in a room. “Now he was on the other side of the orchard and standing on the path outside a wall-” ****My opinion of the book is that it is a wonderful book for all ages. I love how the author shows in great detail how Mary Lennox changes in every aspect from the beginning to the end of the book. I like how his curiosity ultimately unites everyone in the story and how he works to make things happen. The way the book is written helps you understand how the characters feel and what they are going through at that moment. “The Secret Garden” is a wonderful classic that I would suggest people of all ages enjoy and learn about the characters through the author's outstanding work.
