Topic > Whether or not to wear uniform to school - 575

Some schools say wearing uniform is better, while others say it is not. First let's talk about schools that require uniforms. You will most likely find them in Great Britain, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and most African countries. Only private schools use them to distinguish them from other private or public schools. If students wore the uniform they would feel like they belonged in the school. But some religions do not allow woman or man to wear certain types of clothing and they will be taken off at an early age. The uniforms also prohibit gang-related issues such as wearing gang colors or styles. This can be avoided by enacting a dress code that prohibits certain types of clothing but still allows children the freedom to choose the clothes they want. Uniforms are not practical. They are often outdated and uncomfortable to wear. Convenience is often bad. They get hot when you wear them in summer and do not insulate heat in winter. There is no real evidence to show that wearing uniforms will reduce crime at school. But there will be bullying with kids from other schools. Wearing uniforms will show that a student attends a certain school and it will be easy to identify who is “the rival” and bullying or attacks will increase between schools. Dress codes can eliminate the “us and them” feeling that uniforms create. Uniforms are expensive when purchased to be customized and are difficult for some parents to purchase. Uniforms are only produced in small quantities and are packaged in special stores, so the price is usually increased. By having a school uniform, the school is not better in the sense that children would want to go there. Children always try to break the rules if there is a uniform or dress code. Uniforms are not real preparation for the future. Only a small number of jobs require wearing a uniform, but these are usually low-paying jobs. While some jobs require a suit, you can still customize it in many ways to express your personality. In recent years there has been debate about whether uniforms are better or not. Uniforms have no special benefits that come with them. They don't stop gang formations at school because they can still form groups and don't need colors to distinguish themselves from others. Instead they will know who is who by knowing who they are. They don't stop gang-related school violence.
