In recent years the United States has acquired debt that many have called unsustainable, as in a CBO report that states: “If current laws remained generally unchanged, the federal debt held by the public would exceed 100% of GDP by 2040 and continue on an upward path relative to the size of the economy, a trend that could not be sustained indefinitely.” The United States needs to stop spending as much money as it does, but every time someone suggests spending less money they dismiss it as if they want to bankrupt the country.
