Topic > The Pros and Cons of Immigration to America - 1029

Immigrants have accomplished many things for the United States and are a critical piece of the puzzle. Immigrants came to the United States to build a better life, but in the process, they did so much more. The issue of immigration is debatable. Many Americans agree that immigrants are essential to the economy. However, several people would disagree. Eric A Ruark and Matthew Graham argue: “Regardless of opinions about the overall economic effect of immigration, almost all economists agree that the native-born working poor bear the brunt of its negative consequences” (para. 12). Ruark and Graham say many may have different opinions about how immigrants have affected the U.S. economy, but most don't see that natives should take the brunt of the economic hit. Immigrants are taking away what natives should benefit from, millions of jobs are being taken away from natives by immigrants resulting in profit for immigrants and nothing for natives even when it comes to healthcare, the inability of immigrants to pay medical care is causing hospitals and emergency rooms to close due to lack of profit and inability to afford to stay open, which affects the natives who work in these hospitals and emergency rooms and who come for medical care. Ruark and Graham fail to understand that immigrants do not come to the United States to take away what so many have built for themselves.
