When I am asked to define psychology, many thoughts cross my mind. Psychology is the scientific study of one's thoughts and behaviors. People think psychologically every day, such as when you try to explain what someone else is doing to another person. There are many fields of study that seek to understand how people think and the actions they take. Psychology is used for many different reasons, it not only studies human behavior but also helps mental patients and tries to understand them and a problem they have. Learning the scientific perspective on human behavior can help you develop a curiosity about how human behavior works (Feist 2013). Studying psychology not only makes you more aware of how people work in a general context, but it also makes you more aware of how you yourself work. There are a couple of types of psychology that I'm going to look at that I find are very important. The first would be developmental psychology, also referred to as human development, in which the scientific study of systematic psychological changes that occur in the human body throughout life (Cherry 2010). In this field of study they examine changes that occur in a wide range of different topics, including but not limited to motor skills and other psycho-psychological processes. Most researchers are interested in how humans' personal characteristics interact with their individual behavior along with everyday environmental factors, including social context, and how this affects development.
