An artistic and intellectual movement that originated in Europe at the end of the 18th century and was characterized by an increased interest in nature, an emphasis on individual expression of emotions and imagination, the departure from the attitudes and forms of classicism and the rebellion against established social rules and conventions is nothing other than what is called and defined as Romanticism. Unlike many of the “isms” of these times, Romanticism is the only movement that was not considered directly political. Instead, in regards to thoughts and ideas it has been stated that reason alone cannot explain everything and that there must be something more that lies in the subconscious mind. During the Romanticism period, three things that carried over into today's society that have had a great impact on modern beliefs and philosophies were the ideas of individualism, emotion over reason, and how it became an ethical response to empiricism, and like the Romantics he rebelled against the social conformism and growing industrialism that made a person's individuality meaningless. To begin with, individualism is defined as the philosophical ideology of moral stance and social perspective that emphasizes the moral value of the individual. This can also be interpreted as a person who promotes the aspirations of his own goals and desires with independent value and self-confidence that supports what that individual is doing to better himself without any interference from society or institutions such as interests and government interference. During the Romantic period the government constantly attempted to control how people thought and acted, just as the government does in today's modern society. The Romantics......middle of paper......said that this was the same case during the Romantic period with art and literature and was simply carried on for hundreds of years in what we know how now. In conclusion, the Romantic era has not ended nor will it end for a very long and prolonged period of time. The ideas and philosophies of the Romantic era will continue to evolve and shape their reason through changes consistent with wherever this culture is headed. Individualism will continue to progress and rebel against social standards by choosing emotions over logical reasoning. We will continue to follow our heart and not just our mind. Ideas of freedom with an individual affirmation of longing for what is real and the search for a more authentic lifestyle will forever evolve and continue to grow regardless of where humans come from and who created this thing called life.
