What made Theodore Roosevelt such a great president and person? Many people aspire to be like him, but he sets a high bar for humanity. By many accounts he is one of the greatest presidents of the United States, so incredible that his face is carved in stone and will be for hundreds of years into the future. Theodore Roosevelt, Junior was born on October 27, 1858. His father was Theodore, Roosevelt, Senior and his mother was Martha Stewart Bulloch. He lived in New York City in a section now called Gramercy. Theodore had an older sister, a younger brother and a younger sister. When young Roosevelt was often ill, he had to sleep propped up in a chair or lying down. Theodore boxed and exercised to combat his condition, his father encouraged him and helped him along the way. Theodore's first wife was Alice Hathaway Lee, they married on Roosevelt's 22nd birthday. His mother and Alice Hathaway Lee died on the same day in 1884. This made him decide to leave politics and go to the Dakotas, while there he became a rancher. He later returns to New York and runs for mayor, but does not win, losing third with 60,000 votes. Spanish American began when Roosevelt ran the Navy Department. He quickly resigns and forms a volunteer cavalry regiment called the Rough Riders. This group of volunteers fought in Cuba. He was elected governor in 1898. In 1900 he was appointed vice president. He was able to help re-elect President William McKinley Junior, helping campaign for the Republican Party and helping them see him as a viable candidate. Roosevelt then became the United State. McKinley's victory was short-lived after he was assassinated in 1901. Roosevelt then became the... middle of paper... and he was. While he was not seeking new advances in science, he was seeking to improve the human condition. Theodore gave his fellow man a fair chance at freedom and opportunity for success. He appreciated everyone. He wanted everyone to have equality and for the human condition to progress. He accomplished his tasks and equality for all improves every day. Theodore Roosevelt was a wonderful president and an even better man. He considered us all equal and valued the opinions of his people. He helped fight wars and he helped win those wars. He was a precious person in American history who will always be remembered. Works CitedMcSherry, Patrick. "Theodore Roosevelt - The Early Years." Theodore Roosevelt - The Early Years.
