Before it's too late Relationships change over time as life circumstances shape a person's way of thinking and lifestyle. Whether it flourishes or decays depends largely on how both people react to these alterations. In "Shiloh" by Bobbie Ann Mason and "Why Does the Sky Turn Red When the Sun Goes Down" by Ryan Harty, the couple in both stories find themselves at crossroads in their lives where changes have occurred and a decision must be made. In "Shiloh", Leroy is forced to retreat home after injuring his leg in a highway accident. Just like his truck, Leroy, no longer able to make a living as a truck driver, "went home to roost." However, he makes little effort to find another alternative to earn a living. Realizing that he had missed so many things in life when he was still "on the road", he wanted to enjoy the freedom he had now and pay more attention to what was happening around him. ". His wife, Norma Jean, however, fails to recognize Leroy's attitude. Expecting Leroy to take on the responsibility of taking care of the house, watching him lounge around, engaging in embroidery and crafting, agitated Norma Jean.
