A Pair of Tickets This story is about a young woman who lives in California with her mother and father. But she is Chinese and refuses to believe she is. This story is both a mystery and a suspense with a tragically happy ending. At the end of this article I will show how I arrived at this conclusion. First I will tell the story in my own words in a shorter version. The lady who tells this story is about thirty years old. Both of his parents are from China, his mother left China in 1944. At the time his mother was married to another man and had twin daughters. She was trying to reach her husband who was stationed in another military town. He had walked for three days trying to find a ride but with no luck. First he left his two suitcases and then the food he was carrying. Then she tried hard to get a ride or ask someone to take her girls for her. However, she was forced to leave the girls on the side of the road. He had to do it because he was getting sick and feared not only for his life but also for that of his daughters. He hoped that someone would come alone and welcome them. That was all her mother had told her about her two older sisters. For years her mother had tried to find her lost daughters, but had had no luck. Even offering a reward didn't help. His biggest dream was to find the girls, return to China and join both families and make one, happy and loving one. Unfortunately, due to a sudden brain aneurysm, her mother died before she could realize her dream. Three months after her mother's death, her father received a letter in the mail. It was addressed to his mother and was from China. The girls had finally found their mother and wanted to meet her. This letter made his father cry because here are these two girls, writing to his wife and calling her mom. The letter was given to his aunt and he asked her to write back to the girls and, in the kindest way possible, tell them that their mother had died but she never gave up
