There are many ways to approach a conflict to find a solution. For small actions people are often willing to talk about it, but for larger actions the solution to these problems is usually violence, therefore the creation of a war. For many centuries countries have gone to war due to disagreements. However, this is not any kind of disagreement; it usually concerns the political beliefs of some countries. The First World War, in fact, was caused by disagreements between the European countries in power which were Great Britain, France, Russia, Germany and Austria-Hungary. Some countries had differing opinions regarding political values in governing the country. Some were in favor of nationalism, imperialism, or militarism that caused physical conflict and created wars. (Duffy) Many soldiers had to fight to represent their country and make it proud. Many novels have been written to explain to people the psychological impact of war on the soldiers who participated in the Great War, but in the novel All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque the true depth of the war is explained by implying his knowledge of his days as German soldier fighting on the Western Front. Remarque's terrible war experience influenced him to write his novel to show the realistic brutality of war through graphic violence, the emotional impact on private individuals, and the impact of nationalism on the part of the Germans. All Quiet on the Western Front follows the story of a young soldier named Paul who was drafted at a young age to fight for his country. Remarque, being a German veteran of the Great War, was forced to write this novel to show the reality of the war, unlike other authors who write a story about the war without...... middle of paper..... .if of the First World War”.
