Attachment styles need to be addressed in addition to the trauma experienced. As a therapist, I would use a combination of emotionally focused therapy interventions for couples identified with the combined genogram. EFT is interpersonal and enhances the experience and process of therapy (Johnson & Johnson, 2004). It requires participants to be emotionally engaged and encourages openness and connection. Its lowest level focuses on the innate need to connect and builds from that starting point. Additionally, EFT addresses the individual in the relationship by building autonomy and removing personal blame.
