Topic > Donatello: The Renaissance during Renaissance art...

RenaissanceThe Renaissance began in Italy in the 14th century. It was called “renaissance” because it brought attention back to art and science. The Middle Ages were truly dominated by religion. The Renaissance turned attention to being individual and worldly experiences; they were the main themes of the Renaissance art movement. The art benefited from the patronage of influential groups such as the Medici family of Florence, the Sforza family of Milan, and Popes Julius II and Leo X. This movement helped the art become more sophisticated. Many ideas of the Renaissance art movement spread to different parts of Europe. Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi better known as Donatello, was an artist of the Renaissance artistic movement. HeNegative spacing helps with positive spacing which helps bring forward things like his muscles. The texture appears to be smooth. It feels like time and motion existed because he just stands there. Donatello uses the base color to complement “David” with bronze that appears black to the eye. Variety is the most important element and principle. The sculpture comes from a biblical story and in the small view Donatello pretty much tells the whole story. Everything seemed to flow together perfectly. If it hadn't flowed together perfectly, the artwork wouldn't have come out so well. I think he thought it would be a great way to showcase his vision of art and his learning. This was his first piece and it grew from there. Looking at the artwork “David” I really just see a young man who has overcome a big obstacle in his life that no one thought he would overcome.. In life every person has their own obstacle to overcome. The only way to get past them is to size them up and kill them until they fall. “David” really reminds me of the time when I thought I wouldn't go to higher state track and field. The track is my life. I love it. The season had started and my team and I weren't doing very well. Our time was far from last year. The coaches were very hard on us. All we could do was keep our heads down because we thought we would never get back into shape in enough time. Many of the other teams have been training all year, but we only have three weeks to get real just for our first meet. Our first track meet was a tough one and many of us didn't place among the top in any event we had. The odds were against us. We were persistent in achieving our goal. We couldn't give up, that was our main line of thought. As time went by we got better and better. We practice our hand-offs, getting out of blocks, stamina and our jumps. We went to the region not knowing what to expect. We just knew we were going to go out there and give it our all.
