Contaminated water in AfricaOne in five children suffers from hunger and thirst around the world. But going thirsty is not that common in the United States because water is easy to find one way or another. Many people around the world take purified water for granted and see it as something they will always have. In Africa people dream of having drinking water in their daily lives. Contaminated water affects many people from Africa. Such as health problems, pollution and hunger. African civilians are one of the countries in the world that suffer most from hunger and dehydration. These problems affect thousands of people and cause many health problems for all people who drink contaminated water. The water in Africa gets contaminated in all different ways, such as oil companies not knowing how to properly manage the water and oil being transferred into the water. Oil plays a huge role in the dirty water surrounding Africa. For example, in the article “Water Pollution Near Mines Prompts South Africa Probe” we read “Scientists have found high amounts of uranium, arsenic, sulfuric acid and other toxic materials in streams and rivers in and around Johannesburg, where gold mining has been carried out for 130 years." This shows that the activities carried out in Africa are not investigated before they are even carried out. Africans have no choice but to drink the water available to them. Contaminated water is a worldwide problem that many find difficult to solve. Children and families in Africa have to walk for miles to find water that is clean and has no adverse effect on them. Many citizens in Africa suffer from poverty and do not have enough... half paper... dollars to live on, this money can be used for problems such as contaminated water in Africa. Lower class people always pay more taxes because they are middle class. Oil companies are also against cleaning up contaminated water in Africa because they are the main cause dealing with this problem. For example, the article says, “Shell and Nigeria have failed to clean up oil pollution.” Oil companies are recording leaks all over Africa and don't care whether the water is cleaned or not. These oil companies only care about the money they make and not the people they harm. Children die every day due to these problems that have not been solved over the decades. Money spent on other things is not used properly. All the people causing pollution and the oil companies need to be careful about the water they are contaminating.
