The role of the pharmacist within the Alberta health care system is multifaceted and constantly evolving. First and foremost, a pharmacist is a care provider who uses his or her knowledge, skills, and professional judgment to provide pharmaceutical care and facilitate the management of patients' medications and overall health. Subsequently, they are also collaborators who work in concert with the team to provide effective and quality healthcare and, above all, to optimize the quality of life of patients. This is especially significant in our resource-strapped healthcare system as pharmacists are on the front lines interacting with and treating patients; this ease of accessibility allows them to be front-line healthcare professionals for patients and act as a bridge to other healthcare professionals such as doctors.
