If a person successfully completes this stage, they will “give back to society by raising our children.” Otherwise, a person may become cocky and feel disinterested (McLeod). The last and final stage of life is that of wholeness versus despair, which appears during late adulthood. During this period, reflections on one's life will take place and the person will begin to question whether they have had a successful and fulfilling life or whether they have regrets and dissatisfaction with their life. For example, this can occur when a person retires (McLeod). After looking at all eight phases, I am primarily referring to the identity phase versus role confusion. I'm 18 and have been in this phase for about a year. I am mostly referring to this phase because I am not sure what college and degree I want to pursue after completing my Associate of Arts degree. I am worried about what my life will look like in the future because my upcoming choices could be detrimental to future outcomes. I believe that the development theory I have chosen is extremely valid because if my identity is not revealed, I will be lost and have no idea about plans for my future. However, once I find out what I want to specialize in, I will have a good plan for mine
