Yusuf YasserMrs. NadineEssayMarch 17, 2014Kwame NkrumahGhana has a great history and this history began at the hands of a man called Kwame Nkrumah. He was the first and best president of Ghana. Most of the people of Ghana think that he was a hero and that he did a lot for his country and worked very hard to grow his country and his nation. To some people, Kwame Nkrumah was nothing but a loser and did nothing in his life. And they also think that he ruined their economy and that he is responsible for their problems to this day. Now who is Kwame Nkrumah? Kwame Nkrumah was born on September 21, 1909. He was the leader of Ghana and its predecessor state, the Gold Coast, from 1951 to 1966. Overseeing the nation's independence from British colonization in 1957, Nkrumah was Ghana's first president and the first Prime Minister of Ghana. An influential 20th-century advocate of Pan-Africanism, he was a founding member of the Organization of African Unity and won the Lenin Peace Prize in 1963. He considered himself an African Lenin. He had died on 27 April 1972. Kwame Nkrumah was born in Nkroful, Gold Coast. Kwame Nkrumah studied to be a teacher at Achimota School in Accra from 1925 to 1935. For the next five years he worked as a teacher in several schools on the Gold Coast, including a Roman Catholic school in Axiom, while saving money to continue his studies. education in the United States of America. In 1935, Nkrumah sailed from Takoradi, Gold Coast, to Liverpool, England, and traveled to London, England, where he applied for and received a student visa from the American Embassy. He was the only child of his parents. His father worked as a farmer for 31 years while his mother was a baker. Over the years, Kwame Nkr...... middle of paper ......0s has gradually lost his heroic stature among both his own people and his fellow leaders. He lived his last years in exile. This extraordinary life story, which touches on many of the issues facing modern Africa, will open a window of understanding for the general leader and for the graduate and undergraduate classes. He began to explain how Britain was turning Ghana into a big gold mine and a bigger plantation, how Britain was making all the money while leaving nothing to Ghana and Ghana, and how Britain will never help Ghana to become a modern industrial country. Speech after speech, he continued to travel and deliver until he united the entire country under his leadership. He had the welfare of Ghana in mind. And now and after all this I think Kwame Nkrumah was and will be the best president Ghana has ever had and we are all saddened by his loss..
