Buddhism is a monistic religion while yoga is dualistic. Both religions believe that freedom from suffering is freedom for desires that embody samsara, the cycle of death and rebirth. What differs is that yoga believes that their is an Atman, a Brahman, a true self, and an ultimate reality that lies beyond the material world, while Buddhism believes that everything and everyone is composed of the same substance, sometimes called dharma. Buddhism says that by recognizing and coming to terms with the imperishability of everything, that all things change, that there is no self, the anatman can find Nirvana. Brahman is the ultimate reality, but in Buddhism the freedom of suffering, Nirvana does not mean transcending reality but completely immersing oneself in an interdependent reality, without fear of change or death that has come or will follow the present moment of existence. Ignorance in this sense is not at odds between yoga and Buddhism, but is simply the end result of attempting to transcend present reality or sever a person's perceived independence from that
