Their main focus is insults and stereotypes. Meetings are held where 4 to 12 students from the school have been chosen to meet representatives of this program. Students attending were chosen to communicate with the representative about situations that occurred around them or to them. Students and representatives try to understand how they can help bullying situations in their school. The representative teaches the student how to handle bullying, whether it happens to him or to a peer. Lelia L. De Andrade, CPHV representative, states, “We have found that most students who have participated in our programs hear degrading language, insults, and jokes multiple times a day” (Andrade 515). These slurs and stereotypes are based on students' race, religion, gender, sexual preferences, etc. After many years of investigating hate crimes in schools and many years of working in school systems as counselors, what they have discovered is serious violence in schools. it doesn't happen suddenly. Violence occurs over long periods of time, on and off, which then turns into a normal thing. (Andrade 523). Most students who participate in these meetings say that classmates who defend the victim are very helpful. An example is one of the students talks about how a girl in her class was being bullied and so this student came over and sat with her and made her feel like she wasn't alone.
