Topic > The demand for highly trained nurses is increasing

Nowadays nursing is recognized as a promising career and has gained a lot of importance over the years, several programs to become a nursing professional are offered by universities, community colleges and hospitals schools. Since the mid-20th century, demands for nursing professionals have increased, and the last decade has seen a huge increase in the number of nursing graduates (NLN, 2010b). The focus of nursing education has shifted to new dimensions such as community health, public health, primary care, geriatrics, disease prevention, health promotion and other areas, rather than being limited to a particular area. And this mainly serves to prepare nurses to face the evolution of the healthcare system. The demand for nurses has produced a large number of entry-level nurses, the study highlights that highly educated nurses are preferred to handle today's healthcare challenges. By 2020, the nursing workforce is expected to be made up of 80% BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) trained nurses. Achieving this targeted level of BSN nursing workforce involves the use of technology (simulation, online training programs) and the provision of upgrade options for existing associate or degree holders and financial support from educational institutions , nursing employers and other healthcare organizations. Furthermore, the curriculum should be future-proofed to facilitate academic progress. However, reaching the above target workforce population is not an easy mission. Factors that influence the achievement of this goal are the shortage of qualified teachers, salary disparities, incompetent curriculum and inadequate workforce planning. Some initiatives taken to overcome these obstacles are: 1) Creation of VANA (Veterans Affairs... half of the document...) leadership skills, the importance of taking responsibility should be cultivated in nurses from the beginning of their career. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals and exposure to leadership can be created at entry level and in other educational environments. To meet the demands of our evolving healthcare system, nurses must be able to play a leadership role in all settings specifically in the delivery and transformation of healthcare. In conclusion, a joint effort is needed from all involved people, government and healthcare organizations to implement the recommendations highlighted in this report from the transformations mentioned above, as a professional nurse I have been enlightened to use education as a tool I reached a position where I can be involved in becoming a catalyst for this healthcare reform.
