My learning challenges continued at work. My first job was as a lifeguard for the city of Aurora at the Paul Beck Recreation Center. Then I got a job as a materials handler for the FedEx ramp at Denver International Airport. I earned enough for expenses, but not for a car or college. I was an auditory learner in school. But when I started working I switched to a visual learner. Many people learn differently than others. Unfortunately I learn more slowly. For example, one of the exercises I had to do was saving the board in water. I needed to perform the rescue myself to successfully complete the training. Another example is that I had to couple the loader (a type of machine used to move containers) to the plane so that I could unload and load the containers from the
