There are hundreds of different jobs in the television and film industry today. It takes many people to create a film or video, some people have very small parts in the making of the film while others have very large and important parts. Video editors do a very important job in creating a finished film or video. Sorting footage, selecting effective scenes and sequencing scenes effectively; the video editor helps create a well-made final product. JOB DESCRIPTION Anywhere from websites, advertisements, television programs, to Hollywood movies; Video editors, also called film editors, are needed. When a movie is made, the result is tons of “raw footage” (“Complete the illusion with a video editing career”). This is where the video editor comes in, their job is to review this "raw footage" on a daily basis and decide which scenes are best to use for the film and which scenes should be discarded or deleted. Scenes chosen to be discarded include those where the camera angle was not one the director liked or where the actors may have made mistakes. When selecting various scenes, it is important that video editors "choose scenes based on their dramatic and entertainment value and contribution to story continuity" (Dannenfeldt). Selecting funny scenes will keep the audience interested and will also help them understand the film better. After selecting various scenes and shots, the editor's next responsibility is to assemble and sequence them in a logical and effective manner. Once editing is complete “each scene should transition to the next flawlessly” (“Complete the illusion with a career in video editing”). Once the scenes are… in the center of the paper… I think a video editing career is really exciting and a really rewarding job at times, aside from the sometimes unwanted travel and long lonely working hours. Because who knows, maybe one day you'll be the one to edit the biggest new film of the year. Works Cited “Complete the Illusion with a Video Editing Career.” TheArtCareerProject.com.
