Topic > The role of nurses in health promotion - 742

Health promotion Nurses play an important role in promoting health within the patient, family and community (Kemppainen, Tassavainen and Turunen, 2012). The focus of patient care has shifted from disease treatment to disease prevention (Mchugh, Robinson, & Chesters, 2010). Implementing consultations, education, and follow-up examinations can increase an individual's overall quality of life (Kemppainen et al., 2012). I will discuss the various roles of the nurse in health promotion along with the multiple work environments in which they can be implemented. I will also reveal my personal health regimen maintenance plan. The ability to be an educator, advocate, enabler, care coordinator, counselor, and role model are necessary when facilitating positive changes in a patient's lifestyle (Blais & Hayes, 2011). A nurse should educate his patient about the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle, such as eating healthily, exercising, getting an adequate amount of sleep, refraining from taking harmful substances, and participating in diagnostic tests and screening for early detection (Blais & Hayes, 2011). A plan can be implemented once the patient understands the benefits and risks of his or her current lifestyle. The nurse can coordinate a plan with the patient to replace unhealthy choices and attitudes with healthier, more beneficial alternatives. You can design a healthy eating plan and exercise regimen to aid in weight loss and stress reduction. You can incorporate a daily schedule and time management skills to maintain sufficient hours of sleep. Seeking professional help and joining support groups within the community can contribute to the goal of becoming tobacco and alcohol free. ...... half of the paper ...... positive results (Piper, 2008). I commend you for the exercise and dietary changes you have incorporated into your healthier approach to life. I also challenge you to continue with the strength and determination that will help you and your patients achieve a long-term goal of health and happiness. References Blais, K. K., & Hayes, J. S.
