Washington seeks to captivate his listeners, blacks and whites, through his powerful slogan “Throw your pail where you are” (450). Booker T. Washington uses literary devices as persuasive tools in Up from Slavery to demonstrate to whites that newly freed slaves are vital to their economy, to assure blacks that freedom is present, and to form connections between whites and blacks . people.Booker T. Washington uses a variety of metaphors to convince whites that newly freed slaves are the catalysts of their economy and have not changed from before. Washington emphasizes the importance of blacks to whites when he orders them to “throw him among the eight millions of negroes whose habits you know” (450). Whites look for new labor to fill the positions opened by the freeing of slaves, and Washington responds by looking no further than the freed slaves. By cutting it down where they are, white people can still achieve prosperity by hiring the people they once enslaved, without going far to find what they need. With this he proves that black people are vital to America's economy and prosperity, whether enslaved or freed. Furthermore, Washington first sets the stage for white people regarding the plight of black people by making it a dark and sad scene... middle of paper... the point is that a person could have an accident. and you need help quickly. Many companies and politicians use slogans as a way to attract people, usually a wide variety of people, to fulfill their mission, whether it's buying a product or supporting their point of view. These slogans shape our daily lives, influencing what we buy or what we do, sometimes without us realizing it. Slogans are important because they shape our lives and help promote business.
