Topic > The importance of university research - 1017

“A man learns only in two ways, one by reading and the other by associating with more intelligent people (Pantana 237)”, the words of Will Rogers, one of the best researchers in the world -celebrities known in the 1920s and 1930s, came to mind when I received an invitation to become a member of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society or also known as the Tri-Beta Society. As someone new to the field of research and thirsty for knowledge and experience, this window of opportunity overwhelmed me with questions about its benefits and effectiveness for members of society. Fundamentally, Tri-Beta society functions as an honor and professional society for life sciences students, particularly undergraduate students who excel academically and who indicate special abilities and great interest in the fields. Although the Tri-Beta Society is doing very well in providing opportunities for students and faculty to meet and discuss scientific research, it needs to develop further by offering students the opportunity to have hands-on research experiences rather than just sit back and listen to other researchers. Jacqueline Kincart, president of the Tri-beta Biological Honor Society, says, “Conveying a perfect mission to encourage excellence in research and scholarship, this Tri-Beta society is dedicated to enhancing the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extend the boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research” (2014). To achieve its mission, the activities conducted by this society are fundamentally designed to stimulate interest, academic success and to promote the dissemination of information and new interpretations. among life sciences students. The Tri-Beta Society is recognized for its commitment to organizing three meetings per semester to allow members to hear presentations from excellent professors and graduate researchers selected by the executive committee regarding their scientific research. Society members benefit from this activity because Tri-Beta provides a networking means for research colleagues and professors to interact and discuss the latest research questions. One of the goals of the Tri-Beta Society is to provide a means of networking for those involved in research. the biological sciences have apparently been successfully completed every semester, but the society's other goal of providing society members with the opportunity to publish their research has lagged far behind. This problem is due to a lack of opportunities for members to engage and have hands-on experience in research.
