It is very important for early childhood educators to know the NAEYC Code of Ethics. There are four responsibilities for the code. The first is the ethical responsibility you have towards children. This means ensuring that children are safe and that their learning needs are taken into account. Educators need to ensure they support children as best they can. The second ethical responsibility you have is to families. This means making sure you communicate with families about their child's progress. The third responsibility is towards colleagues. They need to make sure they all work together and. This helps everything run smoothly. The ultimate ethical responsibility is to the community. Educators need to make sure the programs they offer meet the needs of everyone in the community. They must also make sure they work with others to provide children with the resources they need, such as healthcare, food and shelter. There are many reasons why we have the code of ethics. The first is the power and status of practitioners. Children are able to defend themselves and stand up for what they need. We need to make sure we use our power and status to help children. Educators have a variety of customers. They need to make sure they balance everyone's needs and know who's priority. They must also ensure that the practices and standards they use are thoroughly researched. This ensures that educators know all the different roles they play in a child's life. Without the code of ethics, early childhood educators would not know how their duties impact children, families, colleagues and the community. The code of ethics is one way to ensure that all early childhood educators follow the same… middle of paper… sometimes it can be difficult when what you believe is not what the law says. I feel like the formula dilemma was resolved the right way. I always thought it was very important not to change the child's diet. When you find a formula that works, you need to stick to it. It was great that the teachers managed to find a way to ensure that all parents could continue to use the formula of their choice at the centre. When I heard the little boy's dilemma it saddened me that a child had to live in that kind of situation. I wish the school could do more. I plan to use the code of ethics in my teaching. I will try to make sure I follow this in my practice. For me it is very important to understand the code of ethics well. By having a good understanding, I will be able to handle different situations I may come across.
