IntroductionIn this essay I will analyze three film posters and their remakes. The three posters I will analyze are Psycho and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. I will analyze these posters using methods I have learned in media analysis such as feminism, the male gaze, and audience theory, along with techniques such as camera angles, lighting, and so on. Using these concepts I will analyze these posters and their remakes and see what changes, if any, there were between the years the films were released. Feminism/Male Gaze (Context/Research) Feminism is a movement that began as a result of "radical social, political, and industrial changes in Europe and the United States." While studying these posters and the films depicting the posters, it is imperative to analyze them with a feminist lens. Since I call myself a feminist, analyzing things like movies and movie posters can be fun to do. All you have to do is ask questions about the media and what the media tries to portray in everyday life. If we don't take a step back in our lives to think critically about things like this, which can be seen as a trivial pastime, we will be influenced by the images the media tries to sell us, what products to buy and even how to behave in our life. The media plays an important role in everyday life and can influence people to become insecure. The definition of feminism is “a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation and oppression”. Just because you don't see sexist and oppressive opinions about women in the media doesn't mean they aren't there and that the problem has been addressed. The problem with feminism is still as strong as ever, we have to take...... middle of paper ......en. It's quite another thing, learning about things like feminism, the male gaze, etc. helped me understand that there are many examples of sexism in everyday life towards women, but instead of looking at the negative side, we should look at what we have achieved and continue to fight for the day when people, both men and women, will no longer be used for their bodies in advertisements and films. Where they are not individuals, but just pretty faces to make a company stand out or for most people to strive to be, but for the day when the media doesn't have to sexualize a person to sell movies or products.
