BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION Child abuse is a devastating social problem that affects every segment of the population. Child abuse poses a serious threat to the health, well-being and safety of our nation's youth. Most abused children suffer emotional rather than physical harm. An abused child can become depressed, this is a serious problem. Since the series was last updated in the early 1990s, numerous new issues have emerged and significant changes have occurred in child and family service delivery systems that are not reflected in previous manuals. AUDIENCE The target audience is parents, guardians and relatives, while the secondary audience includes people who work with children. For example, social workers, healthcare workers, lawyers and day care providers. OBJECTIVES AND AIMS OF COMMUNICATION The objectives of communication are: • Educate adults about what child abuse is and how it can be prevented. • Provide effective programs that focus on individual behavior and attitude change. • Effective programs to stop child abuse. OBJECTIVES The programs will offer education, support and guidance to help families end child abuse.
