IntroductionThe purpose of this report is to explain what "Management Information Systems" (MIS) is. This report will discuss how management information system helps different departments of an organization. The functions and benefits of using MIS will also be examined in this report. MIS can offer numerous benefits to businesses in every industry and is essential to the success of any company. It involves collecting data and processing it to provide useful and relevant information for the company's decision-making process. Since MIS is critical to the success of any business, being knowledgeable and skilled in the matter is a must. What is the Management Information System? "Management information system deals with the planning, development, management and use of information technology tools to help people carry out all tasks related to the processing and management of information." (Rainer & Cegielski) It is an organized approach to analyzing the information needs of management, at every level, in making operational, tactical and strategic decisions. MIS is an integral part of any business. It is widely used in any industry and has become a necessity for survival. MIS is often considered as a subset of the “Information System” (IS). This subset is particularly relevant when ensuring and providing the necessary information to aid management at different levels.
