The Mysteries of Ping-Pong The ball comes at me quickly, faster than I expected, and I swing the racket, hoping to connect and return the ball successfully. The ball hits the rubber and bounces over the net. Immediately after the bounce, my opponent cuts the ball, causing it to slowly float to my side. This ball seems vulnerable and easy to hit, so I put all my energy into one shot and the ball barely clears the net. There is topspin and the downward curve ball. I mentally scream with joy, but it is short-lived. With all my energy put into that drive, I stay off balance and my opponent is able to return the ball. This time I'm not so lucky. The ball passes me like an orange shooting star. The point is his. “Do you like table tennis as much as I do? I hope so, because it is certainly one of the fastest, most exciting and diversified sports around." This quote from Timo Boll, a world class player, perfectly describes what table tennis is. Some might think it's just a basement game where you push a light ball over the net, but there's a lot more to it than that. For starters, it's the sixth most popular sport in the world. As with any good sport, there are a few main components that make up the game. For example, in basketball there are dribbling, passing and shooting. For baseball, catching, throwing and hitting. In table tennis, also known as table tennis, the elements that determine the game are spin, speed, positioning and serve. Spin is an important factor in table tennis. Because there are so many benefits to using spin, all the best modern players use it. Spin in table tennis is what the player puts on the ball and is created with a brushing motion. Topspin is where the player hits... the center of the card... on every exchange. It's surprising how many factors go into a simple game of ping-pong. There are many variables that are difficult to see, but once a person sees them, they will realize how amazing table tennis truly is. Works Cited Geske, Klaus and Jens Mueller. Table tennis tactics.
