Severus Snape's character progressed more and more with each book. When I started the Harry Potter series, I hated Snape in the first four books, and it wasn't until JK Rowling started to further develop Snape as a character that I could really start to understand why he acted the way he did. Snape went from being a Death Eater to someone who gave his life for Harry Potter. He was a controversial character who kept much of his life hidden from readers and this created many outlets for potential fanfiction. I created a piece of fanfiction to fill the void that finally allowed him to change sides, which had a lasting impact on the war against Voldemort. The story is about Snape visiting Voldemort and learning how Harry Potter will die. Lily Potter's death was the only reason Severus Snape changed his allegiance to the Order of the Phoenix, while Snape showed us that love can be more powerful than any evil. JK Rowling explained that Snape had a relationship with Lily Potter very early in his life. youth from the quote: “Did you think we were supposed to be friends? Best friends?" "We are, Sev"", which highlights Snape as a child who wants to be reaffirmed that Lily actually cares for him (JK Rowling Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows). This conversation shows us that Snape's relationship with Lily extended throughout his early childhood. This is important because JK Rowling talks about how her family situation was less than hospitable. So throughout childhood Snape relied on Lily for constant friendship to help him overcome his childhood problems. Knowing how long Snape had had feelings for Lily helped me develop my piece of creative writing to describe Snape's emotions when summoned to learn of Voldemort's plans. ... middle of paper ... understood the Dark Arts so completely that he joined the Death Eaters at an early age and was probably only recruited by Voldemort when it was shown that they had similar goals. Despite his pursuit of the Dark Arts, Lily Potter's death changed everything. His intense love was evident from an early age and only continued to grow until her death. This can be seen by the change of his Patronus to doe and his plea to Dumbledore to help Lily hide from Voldemort. My creative writing creates a situation where he goes from a man who enjoyed the torture of Mudbloods to the polar reversal of a man who begs for Dumbledore to protect the woman he has always loved. Without a crucial change in thought process to help the only person he loved, he would have remained on Voldemort's side. If it weren't for love, the First Wizarding War would have turned out very differently.
