Visual Analysis: Military Advertising After reviewing some videos based on US Army propaganda on a popular media site, it was quite disturbing, since I am currently enlisted among the ranks. The military is also something you normally see in various forms such as billboards, television, and of course, actual soldiers. I would like to look at the whole concept of what videos represent and how they capture the attention of the viewer, audience or consumer. If a person is somewhat or completely against the military, the viewer may have second thoughts after watching the advertisement. Overall the videos organize the three rhetorical techniques into one topic in a way that captures a person's attention. I can easily say that in the area of Ethos videos are doing exceptionally well, and obviously the Army is very well known for many of its features both at home and abroad and obviously the United States Army was founded more than twice a hundred years ago, in the year 1775, a year before the Declaration of Independence! As for Pathos, it moves the viewer with its various scenes as inspiring, motivational, intriguing, etc., that's why it might change the person's point of view from bad to good, but ultimately it depends on the person watching. In the Logos technique, it appears as a relationship with the viewer and how the viewer could benefit from the military in many ways just by wearing a single uniform, or if you are a person from the civilian world it makes you feel a little more secure knowing that the military will defend the United States with all their might. The videos also use some technical numbers in an attempt to show how many military personnel and vehicles we have at this very moment... middle of the paper... one of the most powerful scenes is when the male figure giving the command of "Present Arms" , and immediately afterward the soldiers carry out the command, which essentially sends shivers through my body and perhaps the other viewer as well. In the scene where all the soldiers salute the American flag, this alone conveys a huge sense of pride and the message of why every soldier fights for this country. According to Logos, once again it doesn't give much to show off, however, it gives the aura that if a person is in the military they will become wiser, more respected and more accepted. Comparing and contrasting videos is quite simple. The first video on the contrary represents more Ethos and the second exudes more evidence of Pathos. While in comparison both obviously lure the viewer with various emotional scenes in an attempt to earn the audience's respect.
