The introduction of the Internet into modern society has given rise to a new era of information reporting. Because you no longer have to wait until the day after printing, news from around the world is at your fingertips within hours or even minutes of the event. With the advent of such easily accessible information, new problems have also arisen for the media. In addition to potentially losing economic standing because newspapers are no longer purchased in the quantities they used to, the credibility of the information itself is also called into question. No one would argue that the credibility of news sources isn't important, but there is a discrepancy in what takes precedence; economy and speed or disseminating information correctly when first published by taking the time to ensure all facts are checked. The importance of having a control system over all the information presented is fundamental. People trust what they read and believe it to be so without always asking questions. If all information were not thoroughly vetted, there would be cases where people read an article only to find that the information included is incorrect and continue to believe that information. This can be very dangerous as ill-informed people make ill-informed decisions. With increasing errors made by citizen bloggers and even major publications, many fear that journalistic ethics and credibility in the news media are being sacrificed to maintain speed in the news cycle and retain personal profits. While quickly providing information to the masses is a big part of the media's importance, this should not mean that the credibility of the information presented should be sacrificed for this... middle of paper......er Sites A process needs to be established uniform to make corrections."
