“If we endure all this suffering and if there are still Jews, when it is all over, then the Jews, instead of being condemned, will be made an example,” said Anne Frank ( “ Anne Frank Quotes.”) The Holocaust was one of the most tragic and at the same time enlightening events in history. The period from January 30, 1933 to May 8, 1945 was a great struggle for the Jews, the Germans, everyone. The Holocaust was one of the most influential events in history because millions of people died, it became an important part of our school curriculum and there are still survivors today who talk about the events and experiences that happened during that time. First, Adolf Hitler led the great event known as the Holocaust. He was the leader of the Nazi Party, Chancellor of Germany from 1933 to 1945, and served as dictator from 1934 to 1945. Hitler had a difficult life. During his childhood, he and his father did not get along, and his brother died at a young age. Hitler became very interested in politics while isolated from everyone. He wasn't a bad child. He went to church every Sunday and sang in the choir. He grew up just like any other child would. Although unlike the other children Hitler was furious with anyone who didn't agree with him. On January 20, 1933, he took power and raised an army despite this being against German law. This army was created to capture those it chose and send them to concentration camps where they would be put to work or killed. His army would capture Jews, Poles, communists, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses and trade unionists. It killed approximately two-thirds of the Jewish population in Europe. Hitler never visited the concentration camps he created, nor did he ever speak about the killings. Hitler was afraid of being caught by enemy troops... middle of paper... he grew up and began to understand the ways of people and why they did what they did. He admitted to blocking some experiences out of his mind. One particular part that I liked best about what he said was that we all need to forgive. She said she had forgiven the doctors for experimenting on her, she had forgiven Hitler for killing all the Jews, and she had forgiven everyone. “Anger is a seed of war. Forgiveness is a seed of peace!” said Eva Kor (“CANDLES”). The Holocaust is and has been very influential in history. It challenged their perspective on others and life. It was a daily struggle for those in the concentration camps and those in hiding. It was a time when you had no choice about what to do, because if you didn't do something you could be killed. The Holocaust changed more than the past, but the present and the future.
