Technology as a part of education has been a debated issue since the 20th century. The development of technology has raised the idea that education would improve with the involvement of technology. Many parents and teachers argue whether the use of technology is necessary and will improve the teaching process. Although many people believe that the use of technology will negatively affect the education system, I believe that it will positively affect education by making the lesson enjoyable, understandable and giving students the opportunity to be in contact with technologically advanced devices. First of all, the technology used in education helps in how a lesson is taught due to the illustrations provided. John Tiffany, teacher, told “Education World” that it is a really convenient way of teaching using a smart board, as the material is presented in sessions, sometimes brainstorming to help the student's ideas. Tiffany also says that using programs like PowerPoint and a projector are a great idea because they liven up her lessons. Including images, sounds and music enhances the material. “Digital simulations and models can help teachers explain concepts that are too big or too small, or processes that happen too quickly or too slowly to demonstrate in a physical classroom.” (Sarah Kessler, 2010) Secondly, technology has helped students around the world communicate with professors from other countries. This provided students with an easy way to gain experience from professors from other countries and gain knowledge about cultural differences in education systems. At some sites, it is even possible for students to hold video conferences with native speakers from other countries... in the middle of a sheet of paper... a book or carrying several from one place to another. Furthermore, when there is a school project and students need to find information related to their topic, the easiest way is via the internet. Knowledge, still unknown to them, can be found and presented to the rest of the class, broadening their horizons. This is a great advantage for technology as part of the education system. All in all, although there are some disadvantages of involving technology in education, there are many other reasons that demonstrate its importance in education. The information is now accessible everywhere in just a few clicks, making the lesson much more enjoyable for students with the illustrations provided and giving the opportunity for different cultures to interact with each other and exchange ideas. Technology opens minds and leaves room to learn anything.
