While in the 19th century, when Western artists were actively engaged in artworks of their own heritage, there were very few Asian artists who stood out for presenting Asian arts. However, the moment we started seeing large quantities of Chinese paintings displayed in museums, people started to be aware of the name "Hung Liu" because his artwork was unique and impressive due to his Chinese cultural background. Hung Liu's artwork mainly targets Chinese women and prostitutes. She likes to paint Chinese women's bodies because she regards women's bodies as a powerful symbol and tries to give people an image of what Chinese women look like and how strong and beautiful they are through her painting. Therefore, Hung Liu's artworks become famous for Chinese women's body images and are widely known by people from all over the world. Like the Mexican artist who uses blood a lot as a powerful symbol in her artwork, Hung Liu thinks that the image of the Chinese woman's body represents strong power. Hung Liu is a Chinese-American artist born in China in 1948. She attended Beijing Teachers College in 1975 and studied mural painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. However, he ended up transferring to Sichuan Art University and graduated in 1982 with a major in Painting. In 1984 she immigrated to the United States with her family. Later, he entered UC, the University of San Diego and again majored in Art. At that time she was already good at historical photography and oil painting. His oil painting can be seen as a criticism of the Chinese socialist realist style due to his use of strong traditional Chinese imagery. Furthermore, it reveals a truth that women can prove themselves to be truly powerful and significant to the world. They have inner wealth, talent and are capable of doing everything that men do. It is the reason why Hung Liu is so popular and known by women all over the world as it influences people's misconception towards women.
