The DREAM Act, which stands for Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act, is a bill that would allow undocumented students, who have graduated from high school, permanent residency and allow them to go to college. The purpose of this bill is to ensure that many undocumented students have the dream of attending college and receiving a higher degree. This bill did not pass because many believe it is an amnesty bill that would legalize many immigrants. The DREAM Act has many requirements that students must have, creating a large process for them to go through. The controversy over whether or not the law should pass has caused a lot of turmoil for many young students who want to attend college and get a degree. Although the DREAM Act has not yet been passed, it should be passed because; It would create not only benefits for many students, but also local, state, and federal economic benefits, and even national security benefits by allowing students to recruit into the military. The DREAM Act was introduced in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. There has been excessive newspaper and media coverage, resulting in many misinterpretations and misunderstandings of the bill itself.
