Libertarian vs. Republican“What political party are you?” John asked. “I’m a libertarian,” Zach replied. “No, I mean, are you a Republican or a Democrat?” John replied, confused. “Yes, I know what you mean, but I'm none of those. I'm a libertarian,” Zach responded. Many people are vaguely, if at all, informed about the least popular political parties in our country. When it comes to politics the only two parties that come to mind are the Republican and Democratic parties. How would it be possible for all American citizens to choose between only two political parties to join? For many Americans this is an easy task, hence why the Republican and Democratic parties are the two most popular and well-known in the country. However, other Americans banded together to create their own political parties. Some of these are quite minor and receive very little attention or support from the public, such as the Green Party, the Constitution Party or the Ecology Party. Socialism, anarchism, theocratic beliefs, and racial separatism are ideologies that are also referred to as "extremist" due to how unsupported they tend to be due to how unpopular and far-reaching they are. Others are more commonly known and supported by the public. These include conservatism, liberalism, and libertarianism. Personally, I have always been one of those people who never paid much attention to political parties or external ideologies. I just considered myself a Republican without thinking too much about it because my parents were Republicans and I seemed to agree with most of their thoughts and opinions on political issues. After taking the political compass test, I was a little shocked to find that I was more on the libertarian side. That… middle of paper… believes that it is also important for all these different parties to present their position to each other. If we can learn to do this respectfully, then hopefully this will lead us to the best possible solution to all of our current political conflicts.
