Over the last 30 years, playing video games has become one of the most popular hobbies around the world. Not only has the video game industry become a multi-billion dollar industry, but it has attracted people of all ages. Although video games are played by both children and adults today, there are many questions raised regarding the effects of video games. More particular is the effect that violent video games could have on children. Some critics argue that video games are direct indicators of childhood aggression, while video game advocates argue that there is no direct link between childhood aggression and violent video games. While many people have their own personal positions, this issue is unique because it happens every day. Scientists and researchers from all over the world are continuously researching the effects of video games on children. While this remains an area of uncertainty for researchers, parents should definitely be involved to be aware of what their children are playing when they play video games. Although many different case studies have been conducted around the world, scientists have yet to prove that there is a direct correlation between violent video games and childhood aggression. Since the beginning of this quarter, this has been an issue I have researched extensively. Despite examining several academic sources, I was surprised to see that many of my findings were quite consistent with each other. For the most part, what I found through my research was a bunch of statistics from case studies and the interpretation of those statistics by renowned scientists.
