The world of children nowadays is basically accepted as a world full of homework. Parents have become accustomed to the struggle and most do so willingly because they know that making their children answer endless questions and fill out mountains of paperwork is best for them, but is that really the case? Think about it for a moment, the main purpose of school now is for students to pass exams and make school look bad (Enayati); no pressure, right? Wrong. As schools are under increasing pressure for their students to succeed, teachers are also being tested. These teachers monitor 7-8 hours of children's lives every day and are expected to use that time to prepare students to the best of their ability to make the school proud in these government-mandated tests. What more could they want? Oh right, all the kids spend their lives at home too. There is something very wrong with a government program that puts so much pressure on schools to make them believe that 8 hours is not enough to train a child. Homework is a known cause of stress in children, burnout, obesity, and actually has very few weak links to academic success. Saying they're stressed and have too much homework is a typical complaint among teenagers, but studies have shown that's not so true (Does homework really work?). Having small children around in the evenings after school is almost guaranteed to result in a tantrum. The attacks don't come out of nowhere, children are pushed to their limits and teachers may not even realize it. “Many teachers underestimate the homework they assign by fifty percent, so a homework they think is 30 minutes is actually 45. Plus, if you add additional problems like ADD, it could become an hour,” (Is Too Much H.. .. middle of paper ...... and I don't want anything to do with the school anymore. This doesn't give you much hope for the future. Think about it and keep it in mind the next time you contact your local school district or your senator .Works CitedDistrict Administration.
