Organized crime is a serious problem in monetary terms and costs the loss of billions of dollars every year. Organized crime violates our fundamental Canadian right to peace, quality of life, personal security, corruption in our political system and governments. Furthermore, the weakness of governments and social structures is probably one of the root causes of organized crime. Organized society brings out organized crime and harsh laws promote it further. The government responds to organized crime-related violence with strong security measures while paying less attention to its causes
