Another major adjustment under the fair deal was to establish programs to help former war veterans return to everyday life. One of the programs was free college education. The free education program not only helped veterans find new careers, but also helped society find higher paying jobs such as doctors, lawyers, and engineers. In turn, higher wages meant higher taxes, thus more money to the government in return. Another positive aspect that came with free education was the large number of people who started enrolling in college. The high achievement rate led to the building of more colleges, which in turn created additional jobs and more money. Life after the war seemed to be difficult to deal with on an emotional level, however through government programs individuals were able to transform themselves into a better working class and
