Nidhi PreetiDr. BryanEnglish 112Should gay marriage be legalized?Should same-sex marriage be legalized? The debate over whether or not people in same-sex couples should be allowed to marry or even enter into civil unions is not a new battle. If this issue wasn't a big deal, it wouldn't be discussed to this day. Same-sex couples have been fighting for the right to marry through the government for years, but if the government is still stuck on the fundamental natural fact that only man and woman can unite, then how can it rethink the law? Society's mindset leads it to support the idea that gay marriage will have a negative effect on civilization, so nationwide legalization of marriage between same-sex couples goes against the Bible, has the potential to psychologically harm a child, and threatens the definition same as what marriage is. .Many people believe that marriage is a sacred union between a man and a woman. This topic is related to a recently passed codified US federal law. Scott Bidstrup, the author of his personal essay Gay Marriage: The Arguments and the Motives states: “Who says by whom marriage should be defined? The married? The marriageable? Isn't it a bit like allowing a banker to decide who will own the money deposited in his deposits? It seems to me that if the heterosexual community cannot show a compelling reason to deny the institution of marriage to gay people, then it should be denied.” Here Bidstrup explains why this argument is completely nonsensical. Bidstrup takes a stand on the “sacred institution of marriage between a man and a woman” as something that should be banned, and gay marriage should not be allowed, because there is nothing to support this… middle of paper. .....re accept that this constitutes a violation of human rights: gay or not, human rights are for EVERYONE. If you can't take away someone's rights because they belong to a different religion or race, why can you take away the rights of a homosexual? Everyone is different in their own way. Diversity is why America is the way it is. We need to become more accepting and open-minded and get over it. Gay marriage should be legal. The most important aspect of marriage is that it establishes a legal and social relationship, which makes it easier for people to “be there” for each other, both economically, emotionally and psychologically. Most of the rights and privileges associated with marriage are, in fact, ways to help spouses support each other. Married couples are therefore much better off than unmarried couples, giving relationships the ability to grow stronger and deeper (Cline).
