The Ban Bossy campaign in theory is a big step forward towards equality, but what I understood after analyzing Sandberg's point of view is that there there are other aspects of feminism that this campaign could exceed. That said, I don't agree that bullying will stop a woman or girl's leadership and assertiveness qualities; it may simply quell a situation in which an individual asserts their beliefs and opinions over others in a dominant manner. My challenge to Sandberg's campaign is my disagreement that the word bully is not as spiteful and upsetting as it is portrayed, and that drawing attention to this word may cause more problems than it solves. To fully understand this dispute it is helpful to look firsthand at Ban Bossy's argument and this argument is as follows:1. Women should have equal treatment/opportunities2. Women who assert themselves and take on leadership roles are labeled as bossy.3. Bossy is a term most often used to describe a woman4. Bullying is demeaning and prevents women from realizing their true leadership potential.5. Therefore, we should ban the word bossy to enable women to reach their true potential. This argument is valid but it's not even remotely valid. Yes, I agree that if these premises are true we should seriously consider banning this word for the good of women everywhere. The fact is that these are not valid premises and this is where we run into problems. Clearly premise one is undeniably true, premises two and three are also true to some extent.
