“Homage to My Hips” by Lucille Clifton, is a poem in which she proudly describes her hips. She states that her hips are big and need more room to move, she also states the magic and freedom of her hips; which means they are powerful hips and can go wherever they want. Based on this brief summary, Lucille Clifton uses allusions and metaphors to describe how she strongly accepts her body. The fact that she repeated the word “hips” in her poem demonstrates her disregard of what people think of her, which is a positive behavior. And therefore, improving mentality means accepting physicality. Therefore, it is no mystery that most people have a strong personality due to the acceptance of visual impressions.
