Interview with classmate and model Schlossberg 4S1 Situation: The transitionMy client was Sonia and her transition was the change of her career choice. She said that before, when she was in high school, she wanted to study early childhood education because she thought she liked working with children. And when she began studying English at George Brown College, she found out a lot about the early childhood education program and decided the program wasn't right for her. He found out a lot of information, such as what kind of job the person can do after finishing the program, and the job description, such as what his daily activities were. And after she found out what they do in that job and decided not to study early childhood education. He says the work was very routine and physically demanding, which was not what he wanted to do next. Therefore he decided to change his career choice. The transition wasn't early because the change in his career choice didn't happen until he started school at George Brown College. She said that after she found out what the early childhood education program is about, she went to talk to an academic advisor at George Brown so she could change the program. Additionally, he says the transition was also brought forward because after starting school at George Brown College, he knows that the career choice he made when he was in high school wasn't what he really wanted to do. The transition Sonia experienced was an event and she chose to make those changes, so the source of the transition was internal. Sonia also told me that she sees this transition as a role gain because she knows she will do something different after graduation. She also went to say...... middle of paper...... sounds the transition and will be the first person who can help him connect with other supporters in his community. And finally strategies are the ways the client uses to deal with the transition. The career counselor must know and understand how the client copes with changes. Therefore, employment consultants can help the client identify the actions to take. For example, if the customer can't think of a strategy to use to resolve their situation. As a career consultant you can give him suggestions on what strategies he can use. In conclusion, knowing Schlossberg's theory can help career counselors be aware of factors that may influence the client's transition. And knowing the 4S model can help the career counselor be the mediator of their feelings and the person who can encourage them to move forward during the transition..
