In 2013, Peter Berg made a film version of Marcus Luttrell's novel Lone Survivor. Both the book and the film are set in Afghanistan and tell the story of Operation Redwing. In both versions, four Navy SEALs head across northern Afghanistan to Pakistan's mountainous border to capture or kill a known al Qaeda leader. Throughout the film version of Lone Survivor, what happens to Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell is very similar to what happens to him in the novel. However, the film is different from the book because it leaves out some details, is told primarily through dialogue rather than narration, and ends differently. The novel Lone Survivor has much more detail, unlike the film. For example, in the novel Petty Officer Danny Dietz is not a member of Marcus' team, but is substituted at the last second to replace Petty Officer Shane Patton.
