Topic > Review: Star Wolves 3: Civil War - 1478

Introduction: I love games with spaceships in them and have played almost every PC game with a spaceship in them since the mid 80s. Why am I talking about this? Because the game I'm reviewing, Star Wolves 3: Civil War, is simply littered with spaceships. Does this make me more partial or perhaps more critical? It's hard to say, but as someone who really enjoyed the previous two Star Wolves episodes, I was pretty excited to try this new one. Let's dive in and take a look, shall we? Game Overview: Star Wolves 3 is a… space sci-fi action/strategy/RPG hybrid game. *takes breath* What does that mean exactly? This game mixes a few different elements into a pretty cohesive whole. At the heart of the game is control over your spaceships. You usually have an armed mothership and several fighters under your command. These fighters need pilots, and this is where the RPG element comes in, as your pilots gain experience through combat and these experience points can be used to increase their skills in specific areas, such as piloting, stealth , missile combat, etc. The game takes place in a fairly large universe with over one hundred star systems. You start the game as a lowly tugboat pilot, ferrying cargo back and forth between stations, until the story literally explodes in your face. From there, it's a story of intrigue where you make new friends, new enemies, acquire new ships, and so on. The gameplay itself is controlled by a fairly streamlined interface that hasn't been changed much since the previous installment, which isn't a bad thing since it worked well before. The game runs in real time, but you can pause at any time to give orders to your ship, which is very useful in combat... middle of paper... kind of took me out of the moment because well . Overall, though, these are relatively minor issues that could be fixed with a patch or two. It's strange to see that many of these complaints were present in previous games, making them a little less forgivable, but again, these issues are minor enough that they don't get in the way of gameplay. Bottom line: Whole Star Wolves 3 has some issues, its positives definitely and thankfully outweigh its negatives. I had a great time playing this game and will continue to do so once this review is published, as I can't wait to see what happens next with these characters and the universe they live in. I can easily recommend this game to anyone who loves space combat games, RPGs, or tactical combat games, as this game successfully blends elements of all three into a fun and cohesive whole.
