is currently at war, a war on drugs. It's a war we've been fighting for almost a hundred years. President Nixon personally waged a war on drugs. Regarding an article titled “A Brief History of the War on Drugs,” “It dramatically increased the size and presence of federal drug enforcement agencies and promoted measures such as mandatory sentencing and no-knock warrants.” Even with consistent enforcement, it's a war they're losing. From time to time, drug addicts continue to end up in hospitals, courts and prisons. Drug dealing creates harmful crimes that consume local neighborhoods. Often the children of drug addicts are mistreated and neglected, sometimes even abandoned. Drug dealers and members of organized crime are the only ones who benefit from this war. All America's efforts have been aimed at drug users and their criminalization. The government continues to spend billions of dollars to deplete the supply of drugs. As long as law enforcement continues to raise money for prohibition, it will be wasted because it was unsuccessful. The costs outweigh the benefits, drug laws must be repealed and made legal. The war would be over; Without the war on drugs, billions of dollars would be saved, as well as an enormous amount of human lives. Government spending on law enforcement must be shifted towards treatment, prevention and prevention
