The thriving brains of young people easily adapt to the habit of switching tasks, decreasing their ability to pay attention. Our generation has difficulty with sustained attention, for example when involved in a novel. Larry Lannom, vice president of the Corporation for National Research Initiatives, says that “people need to be taught to think critically and to focus. If they are, then the internet is a rich source of information. If they are not, then it will be a source of misinformation and senseless distraction” (“Teens, Technology and Human Potential in 2020”). This applies to our generation, especially those who play video games and can find distraction in anything.
