These differences included greater perceptions of loss of control and threat, greater exposure at a younger age and to higher impact events, greater general anxiety, along with biological differences which made women more susceptible to developing these disorders (p196). Interestingly, although women tend to be more affected by traumatic events, they are also more likely to create post-traumatic growth for themselves, which helps them cope better in the long term. While women are more likely to develop these disorders, they are also more likely to experience increased growth, according to research.
